Arizona Weed Prices by Size & Product Type

Updated: Aug 5

If you're a cannabis enthusiast who is planning to visit the Grand Canyon State, you need to be familiar with Arizona weed prices to know what to expect when you visit a dispensary. In Arizona, dispensaries can either be licensed for medical or recreational marijuana, and the average cost is a little different for each—although both types offer excellent products.

Arizona Recreational Weed Prices

Adults aged 21 and over can purchase recreational cannabis at any state-licensed dispensary in Arizona. Recreational consumers may possess up to one ounce of weed for personal use or 5 grams of marijuana concentrates. Accessing the Medical Marijuana Program

Medical marijuana patients in Arizona enjoy up to 16% lower prices than adult-use recreational marijuana because they are exempt from the excise tax (the "luxury tax") and only pay sales tax on their purchases.

To qualify as a patient, you’ll need to have one of the state-defined qualifying conditions for a medical marijuana card. Then you need to obtain a recommendation from a licensed physician (in-person and telemedicine marijuana evaluations are available). Then, every two years, you’ll need to renew your AZ MMJ card to continue to enjoy these privileges.

Arizona Medical Marijuana Dispensary Prices

Medical marijuana businesses tend to charge slightly lower prices than recreational businesses, though costs will vary according to the location, quality, and strain. Medical marijuana sales are available to patients aged 18-20 whereas recreational access to marijuana is limited to consumers ages 21 and above.

Cost of an Ounce of Weed in AZ

Dispensaries in Arizona generally sell cannabis flower in quantities of 1/8 ounce, 1/4 ounce, and 1/2 ounce. However, you are allowed to purchase up to 1 ounce of marijuana (28 grams) at a time for personal use or 2.5 ounces of marijuana if you have a medical marijuana card. Some retailers of legal cannabis do sell cannabis by the ounce. This is a rough guide to the Arizona weed prices for one ounce of marijuana:

Price range: $99.00-$280.00

Low quality: $99.00

Medium quality: $198.00

High quality: $230.00

Other Cannabis Product Types

Flower is still the most common form of marijuana sold in dispensaries. However, dispensaries in Arizona offer a wide range of product types:

Pre-Rolls

Pre-rolls come ready to smoke and sometimes come infused with cannabis concentrates. Most pre-rolls contain 1 gram of cannabis, although different sizes are available.

1 gram: $5.00-$25.00

3 grams: $40.00-$45.00

Vaporizers

Vaporizers can be purchased as cartridges, pods, or disposables. The most common sizes are 0.5 grams and 1 gram.

0.5 grams: $17.00-$42.00

1 gram: $40.00-$72.00

Concentrates

Concentrated marijuana products are sold by the gram. Users in Arizona are allowed to purchase and possess up to 5 grams of cannabis.

0.5 grams: $25.00-$40.00

1 gram: $15.00-$80.00

Edibles

If you're new to cannabis or averse to smoking, edibles are a great place to start (just be careful about the dosage). Marijuana and cannabinoid-infused goodies are generally sold as individual pieces up to packs of 10.

Single candy: $4.00-$10.00

Brownie/cookie: $18.00-$30.00

Packet of candies: $10.00-$38.00 (up to $140)

Tinctures

Cannabis tinctures in Arizona come with CBD, THC, or a combination of both. The price per bottle ranges from $20.00 to $140.00 depending on the size of the bottle and the amount of CBD or THC in milliliters.

Taxes on Arizona Cannabis

On top of these prices, Arizona dispensaries are obligated to add a 16% excise tax as well as the local city/county tax rate, which varies but usually amounts to about 8%. The tax revenue from the excise tax helps to fund enforcement of the program as well as community colleges, emergency services, and highways.

Medical marijuana patients are exempt from paying the excise tax and only pay the state (and local) sales tax of each purchase. For medical patients who spend hundreds of dollars each month on cannabis at their favorite medical marijuana dispensary, this amounts to significant savings.

Get Medical-Quality Weed for Cheap or Free

Cannabis can get expensive, but there are several ways to save. In addition to loyalty rewards programs and weekly deals, many medical cannabis programs offer affordable access with generous first-time patient deals, medical program-only discounts, and free cannabis for patients with certain medical conditions (for example chronic conditions).

If you have a green thumb, you could also grow your own marijuana in Arizona. Recreational users can have up to six plants each or 12 plants per household, and medical users can have 6 mature and 6 immature plants or have a caregiver grow these for them—as long as they live at least 25 miles from a dispensary.

If you are planning to visit Arizona or become a permanent resident, be assured that the Grand Canyon State has plenty of top-shelf cannabis and very 420-friendly laws.

As long as you consume your cannabis in a private residence, don't open marijuana in public, and keep it separate from minors and driving, you can enjoy all that the state has to offer.
